So, do you enjoy Fan Fiction? Sometimes the fans know how to do it better than the official channels.
If there’s one superhero I enjoy watching it’s Batman. The movies have some decent action and martial arts and the animated films are even better. But recently Matthew Kohler of Red Fist productions contacted me about their new web series which has just premiered it’s called “Batman: Master of Fear”.
The pilot has just been put online and it follows Commissioner Gordon as he makes a hard push to capture the long-reigning Black Mask, who took control of Gotham after Batman vanished three years ago. What Gordon doesn’t realize is he’s about to walk into a trap set by Black Mask and a new villain named ‘Nightmare’.
By heavily sticking to a Film Noir style and focusing the action on Batman’s martial arts abilities, the film sounds quite promsing for fans of the Dark Knight and martial arts action.
The first episode is below and teases the action that is to come. Check it out and let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

Just recently saw BIRTH OF THE DRAGON. It’s a well-made and well-acted movie. Just one thing really bothered me about it. It is the exact opposite of the truth.
Wong Jack Man is the hero, an honorable humble Shaolin monk. Bruce Lee, if not a villain, is certainly a bully and a self-deluded guy. The go-between these two is a thinly-disguised Steve McQueen type on a motorcycle. Who, by the way, leaves Sifu Lee to train with Wong Jack Man.
Bruce’s vision of the future of martial arts is derided as empty and not classically grounded like Shaolin Kung fu say. EXACTLY! That was Bruce’s whole point. He wanted to free the student from “the classical mess”.
Wong Jack Man is portrayed as the superior martial artist. Letting Lee claim victory in their fight, as they show that he could have won anytime he chose. The character even says at the end “I’ll come back and kick his ass. PUH-LEEZE!!!
In reality, Wong Jack Man was hired by angry Kung fu purists, who wanted to stop Lee from revealing Kung fu to the world. Wong Jack Man didn’t win his fight with Bruce. In fact, he ran for his life and was beaten very easily. That Bruce took his lack of perfection in the fight to dedicate himself to invent Jeet Kune Do, came from within him. Not from some Chicken Little who thought he could intimidate him.
By all means see this movie. It’s a fancy Bruceploitation that tries to belittle him by showing a superior Shaolin master. But understand that jealousy towards what Bruce Lee accomplished still resonates. It just goes to show what a truly revolutionary life Bruce Lee lived.
